Sold! Shaq’s Mega-Mansion in Florida Gets a Buyer

January 27, 2021

It’s SOLD! Shaq’s huge mega-mansion near Orlando, Florida has a buyer. Final price, about $16.5 million — down from the $19 million that it was listed for in the most recent attempt to sell.

That might seem like a pretty good discount but remember, the home was originally listed at almost $30 million dollars when O’Neal put it on the market for the first time back in 2018. A steal? Maybe…

We’ve covered the house before here on ShaqFu Radio, but for those just now coming to the story, a bit of history: The mansion is in a super-upscale, gated luxury community near Orlando, and this particular property sits on a slice of land between two lakes, effectively giving it super privacy and exclusivity.

The home is a whopping 31,000-square-feet – it would probably be more accurate to call it a “complex” or “compound” (popular words in the high-end real estate world). It sits on 12 acres of property, with 12 bedrooms, 11 and a half bathrooms and a 6,000-square-foot indoor basketball court, just the thing for the millionaire / basketball fan.

Also included: 17-car showroom. No, not really a “garage,” as this area looks more like a classic car museum than a simple, humble garage. Inside, there’s a cigar bar and walk-in humidor and a soundproof home theater… perfect for stay-at-home movie nights. There’s a giant-sized wine storage, three fireplaces, a chef’s kitchen, and all the up-to-date smart-home technology and gadgets.

We here at ShaqFu Radio really like the waterfront office, overlooking one of the lakes, and the huge (and we mean HUGE) bedroom with the giant round bed emblazoned with a black and silver Superman logo. (Not sure if the bed comes with the house, but where else is it going to fit?)

Outside, as we said, the house is surrounded by water, sitting between Lake Louise and Lake Butler. For fresh water, there’s a huge 15-foot deep swimming pool that puts Olympic-sized pools to shame. Near the pool’s rock waterfall, the property has an outdoor kitchen, a tiki-style cabana and a private dock with two covered boat slips.

No matter the slightly reduced price, O’Neal is making quite the tidy profit on the home He paid just $3.95 million for it back in 1993. Accounting for inflation, that’s about $7.2 million in today’s money. The home was originally built in 1990, but of course Shaq had plenty of his own upgrades installed over time.

With Shaq spending so much time in Atlanta, due to his duties with the TNT network and “Inside the NBA,” it didn’t make a lot of sense to keep the Florida home. Shaq has a place in Atlanta, so why pay the (huge) property tax bill in Orlando?

Originally, the home was listed for $28 million back in 2018, but got no offers. The mansion was relisted four times in total, before finally being sold. Still, even at the “reduced” price, quite a nice payday for Shaq’s real estate holdings.
