Well, that didn’t take long at all! Sure the memes over the Will Smith / Chris Rock “incident” at the Oscars has been all over social media. The slap heard – but more likely seen – around the universe. Never wanting to let a good meme go to waste, our man Shaq has jumped on the Big Slap bandwagon.
So it all went down at (yet another!) birthday bash for O’Neal, this time at the Steak Market in Atlanta. It was supposed to be a surprise party, and that would have made a lot of sense, since Shaq’s birthday was (at the time of writing this post) a few weeks ago. Still, if there’s a party to be had, why not?
So when the big man took the mic at the party, he launched into a 10-minute freestyle rap. The video is below, but be warned, it’s definitely NSFW. Cleaned up a bit, here’s Shaq: “Tomorrow I’m on TNT, with (f-word) Kenny [Smith], with(f-word) Chuck, I might Will Smith his ass I don’t give a (f-word).” A crowd of about 250 the posh steakhouse and club definitely enjoyed it… giving Shaq a big cheer for the reference to “that moment” that rocked the Oscars.

Of course O’Neal and Sir Charles Barkley have had quite the entertaining and enjoyable love-hate relationship for years. It often shows up on TNT’s Inside the NBA program, but it’s not limited to the TV show. Rarely do either of the Hall of Famers miss the opportunity to take a swipe at the other. That swipe is normally a verbal thing…but sometimes not!
In what’s become an instant meme and the talk of ALL social media, it was during the just-broadcast Academy Awards show (on LIVE TV!) that popular actor / comedian Will Smith walked on stage and slapped show host Chris Rock in the face – right there on stage! – after Rock made a “G.I. Jane” joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who is bald and has alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss.
In a story from our friends at TMZ, the incident between Smith and Rock sparked criticism and debate across the world. Smith has since issued an apology on Instagram, writing, “My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”
As far as Shaq’s rap, Sir Charles wasn’t the only one getting the attention. He also took a jab at LeBron James with a joke about the Lakers’ star’s hairline, which was another crowd favorite.
