We all know that our man Shaq has a lot of different business interests out there… yet one of his most long-standing and probably most fun is his connection to Carnival Cruise Lines. Well, the big man was back on the job for this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration on board several Carnival liners.
Weddings at sea – on cruise lines of all shapes and sizes – are nothing new. You’ve probably been on a cruise and seen a wedding party of two. We at the offices of ShaqFu Radio certainly have. It’s a great way to get everyone in the wedding party together, and mark the occasion with friends and family, all while having the details taken care of by the cruise line staff.
On the traditional day to celebrate all things love, lots and lots of couples will use the holiday to renew wedding vows and affirmations of connection. For Carnival Cruise Lines, that means thousands of couples will be cruising to mark their special day, and Carnival puts on a big party for any couple on board that wants to renew their vows of love.
This year, that happened on not just one, but several of Carnival’s “Fun Ships” in ports and at sea around the world. Not only that, the ceremonies were officiated – in a virtual way – by the cruise line company’s official “Chief Fun Officer” – Shaquille O’Neal!
Shaq beamed in via closed-circuit TV to Carnival ships wherever they were on their journeys. The onboard ceremonies happened while the ships were at sea and also docked in far-flung places like Nassau, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel, Grand Turk, and St. Maarten.
Shaq did the ceremony on the big screen TV, and then each ship had its own party with a DJ, dancing and a champagne toast to honor the couples and their love. Sounds like fun!
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said: “Our wedding and vow renewal offerings are expansive, and our dedicated team of professional planners can help handle every detail with care, from the music and decor to the dessert. Guests can choose ceremonies at sea, in port at beautiful destinations, or even at the ship’s homeport ahead of their cruise so friends and family who aren’t sailing can attend the event.”
The cruise line said this year’s event was the largest-ever vow renewal at sea. Parties after the Shaq-hosted ceremony included special trivia contests, Dive-In Movies and the Love & Marriage show hosted by each ship’s cruise director.
Gotta admit… being “Chief Fun Officer” sounds like a great gig. None better than our guy Shaq to handle the fun-sized duties.
