The NBA season is in the middle of the Finals series, signaling the (almost) end of the season). Thinking ahead, there’s the baseball season to enjoy, and to start thinking ahead to football.
For Shaq, he’s checking in with his friend Deion Sanders, who’s about to enter his first season at Colorado University. O’Neal is a big fan of “Coach Prime,” and has been giving him the occasional shout-out on social media. Sanders came to Colorado from Jackson State with a five-year, $29.5 million dollar deal.
Sanders was a true superstar in the NFL, and now he’s making big waves in college coaching. He created quite the buzz at Jackson State, a popular HBCU (Historically Black College / University). Now he’s planning on the same with Colorado who finished with an abysmal record of 1-11 last year.
At Colorado, hopes are high. The team upgraded their facility for the new incoming coach, including about $156 million in facilities upgrades and improvements. Shaq has been posting pics of the new facilities on his Instagram stories. Not only that, he’s been posting on the Gram with various shout outs to Coach Deion.
It’s not all rainbows for Coach Sanders. Some have said they believe he used Jackson State to get to Colorado and that he sold out for more money. However, fans on this side definitely have forgotten that Sanders took Jackson State to great heights and did everything he could – it seemed – in his power to improve the team…which he did.
Time now to see how Sanders performs on a way-bigger stage. No doubt “Coach Prime” is motivational and inspiring. He’s posted on Twitter and other platforms with his inspirational messages, and O’Neal has been re-posting and re-tweeting many of them.
Now he’s working his magic at Colorado. “It’s not just about football. It’s about bringing people together, it’s about uniting people,” Sanders says. “All ethnicities, all social climates. It’s not just about football. People get so caught up in the Ws and Ls. We’re going to win some games. But we’ve got to make sure these kids are winners on and off the field and amongst the community. I don’t care what ethnicity they are. We just want to bring people together and give them hope.”
That’s a great message… we’ll be watching carefully to see how it goes. Best wishes to Coach Prime for the upcoming season. We’ll be watching, along with our man Shaq.
