Time for another one of those best of lists involving our man Shaq. Yes, he’s on the list. No, he actually did not create this list. That’s what makes it all the more interesting.
Of course, we’ve seen tons of these lists before. Often, they come from O’Neil himself. His favorite Lakers lineup. His favorite, big man. So many lists… Too many to count.
This list, however, is very different. It’s actually from a current superstar… Steph Curry. Our thanks to LakersNation.com for this story. Here’s the details:
No surprise that for fans, analysts and even players in the NBA like putting together those “best-of” lists. Also no surprise that whenever an all-time greats list is compiled – no matter who does the list-building- that one or more of the purple and gold crew will be on it.
In years to come, there’s no doubt that Steph Curry will be on plenty of those lists himself, but at least for this one, the Dubs star did not include himself. Strange? Maybe. Who’s on it? Here you go:
In a recent tweet, Curry revealed his all-time, best-ever starting five, and the roster included three Lakers legends: Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and (from a few more years back), Magic Johnson. Along with those three, the list names Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan.
Interesting choice to include Duncan, one of the “twin towers” from the great San Antonio Spurs teams of the past. The Lakers Nation story agreed that all five on this list would probably also show up on any serious rundown of the top-10 players of all-time. Lakers Nation also suggests – probably rightly so – that if you needed a few more names (bench players, maybe?), you’d also pick from other Lakers stars of the past.
There’s no doubt that Shaq is one of the most dominant forces the NBA has ever seen. If you didn’t want to include O’Neal (what?), you could have tapped Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for that center position. Kobe is another obvious choice, but could have been swapped out for current Lakers superstar LeBron James. Gotta be honest… we’re chucking a bit, thinking of having LeBron on the bench.
Ahhh yes, summer off-season for the NBA. No matter what time of year, there’s always something to talk – and argue – about. Curry’s list is another fun addition to the offseason conversations. See you in the fall!
