Shaq Checks In With Yao

October 2, 2023

The old saying goes, “a picture tells a thousand word.” That’s never been more evident from a recent post from our man Shaq, on a business trip to China and checking in with an old companion from the NBA.

O’Neal posted it to his socials over the weekend… A meeting with another former NBA superstar, Yao Ming. What the trip down memory lane, right! And what a sight in the pics – giant-sized Shaq actually looking a bit smallish next to the towering Yao.

Shaq was on a business trip to China when he got a few minutes with Yao, and the images were – honestly – amazing. As Shaq posted: “Always good seeing my brother.”

In a video clip Shaq posted, the two were seen exchanging a few words and smiles. If you look closely, or notice that kind of thing, you’ll see the former Houston Rockets center – at seven foot six – having to lean down a little to hear what O’Neal had to say.

The fan comments came pouring quickly in. “One of the few people on earth who are taller than you, Diesel,” one wrote. Another added, “It’s insane to see someone lowering his head to listen to Shaq.”

And more: “How do you dwarf Shaq… Damn,” someone wrote. “Yao makes him look like a small forward,” said another.

What’s Yao Ming up to these days? Well, since February 2017, Yao has been chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association. Needless to say, Yao is one of China’s best-known athletes. Like his friend Shaq, he’s got sponsorship deals with several major companies.

Yao had a standout NBA career with the Houston Rockets. Yao was selected to start for the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game eight times, and was named to the All-NBA Team five times. During his final season, he was the tallest active player in the NBA at a towering 7 foot six inches!

In July 2011, Yao announced his retirement from professional basketball because of a series of foot and ankle injuries which forced him to miss 250 games in his last six seasons. In eight seasons with the Rockets, Yao ranks sixth among franchise leaders in total points and total rebounds, and second in total blocks.

Interestingly, Yao earned his place in the Basketball Hall of fame the same year as Shaq. Back in April 2016, Yao came in with O’Neal, along with Allen Iverson.

Great to see the two big men together for a chat!
