For the fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers – and there are a few here in the offices of the ShaqFu Radio blog – it was a great game the other night against the Boston Celtics. Down by a significant double-digit number midway through the 4th quarter, the Cavs stormed back to win it by one, 105-104. It was the biggest comeback of the season, and the fourth-biggest comeback in franchise history.
At the game along with the thousands of screaming fans, football brothers Travis and Jason Kelce. The family has deep Ohio roots. Pretty sure mom Kelce is an alumni of Ohio University, where a ShaqFu Radio writer attended journalism school…
The Cavaliers rolled out a bit of the red carpet for the Kelce brothers, presenting them with personalized Cavs jerseys, sparkly game balls and a special-edition bobblehead toy that included both brothers on the same statue. The two brothers are Cleveland natives and longtime Cavs fans. The bobbleheads were given to fans at the Cavs game against the Boston Celtics.
Well, one of those bobbleheads found its way to the studios of TNT’s Inside the NBA, in time for the pregame show featuring Shaq and the usual crew. Cast members passed around the toy, admiring it and adding their own comments…. Until Shaq broke it!
Studio host Adam Lefkoe was working the center of the desk for regular host Ernie Johnson during the show. As he handed Shaq the bobblehead, pointedly told him, “Be very careful.”
“Oh yeah, that’s nice,” O’Neal replied.
“What do you think of Travis’ hair?” Lefkoe asked. “That’s the Kelce (hairstyle).”
O’Neal, who had been holding the bobblehead less than 15 seconds, then broke Jason Kelce off the bobblehead base.
Needless to say, it was one of those all-too-familiar unscripted Inside the NBA moments… the ones that make the show the fan favorite that it’s been for years. Lefkoe let out a “What…?” Co-host Jamal Crawford joked, “Shaq said, ‘These ain’t no damn Reeboks.’”
As parents have told misbehaving children for years, Lefkoe told Shaq, “Jeez man, we can’t even have nice stuff around here,” adding, “You just ripped Jason Kelce off.”
Not surprisingly, social media blew up fast, with fans chiming in with their comments. No doubt even more will have been added since this post. Check your social feed for more…
